Psalm 135
Reflect
Do you recall a couple of years ago when, amongst others, John A MacDonald’s statue was removed in Kingston?
I was raised in the Wolseley area in Winnipeg. It was a diverse neighbourhood with most of us lower-middle income, opening the area to gentrification. It then became “the granola belt”. I loved it there.
I recall my Metis friend mentioning to me that “Lord Wolseley” was brutal to his ancestors. I had no idea what he spoke of. We were taught that Lord Wolseley was a hero, one to have schools, streets and schools named after him. One could even say an idol. We now know better. Idols are like that. They look all appealing and worthy of our worship, but they are anything but.
Verses 15-17, and indeed the Bible from cover to cover warns us of the danger of intentionally or unintentionally revering an idol. As followers of Jesus, we have the privilege of praising the enduring name of Jesus, who alone is worthy of all our praise.

What is your false idol?
How do you see your role in tearing down the false idols of our culture?
How will you use your privilege to reveal to false idol worshippers the glory of God’s justice, grace and truth?
