Galatians 3:26-29
Reflect
Paul had taught the Galatians that faith in Christ was the only way for salvation. By faith in Jesus Christ, and baptizing into Christ through the Holy Spirit, our scope of church family suddenly enlarges! If we’ve truly experienced the vertical change that grace has brought, then Paul’s point is that there is a horizontal effect when we become “all one in Christ.”
What is that effect? There is no longer a distinction between family members in the family of God. Christ has broken down the barriers that naturally divided us since the fall in Genesis 3, and we have become a new group of people. Regardless of race, culture, gender, professions, differing views on church ministry, and people who are struggling differently from you, we all come to Christ the same way – through faith and repentance. Grace changes you; grace changes all of us.
Apply
A work-based salvation, as Paul clearly opposes in his letter to the Galatians, only results in behaviour modification and not heart change.
What is the Holy Spirit inviting you into today? Is it faith and repentance? Or perhaps, it’s reaching out to a friend, coworker or family member that’s been distant lately due to a disagreement. Knowing that we are all on an equal playing field, step in faith and have a conversation with that individual.
