Ephesians 4:1-6
Reflect
Imagine yourself at the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Have you ever arrived early enough where everyone is trying to tune their own instrument at the same time? Everyone is tuning it to a specific note while making adjustments as needed. Although some may find it to be an enjoyable sound, some may find it disharmonious.
As the symphony begins, what was once disjointed soon becomes a beautiful and harmonious piece of art: people from different backgrounds and experiences, all with unique talents, with different musical preferences coming together to share a common goal.
Due to what Christ has done in providing eternal life for us, He’s made us into a spiritual symphony. There is unity in our diversity in the same way that Jews and Gentiles have become united in Paul’s context. We may speak different languages, live in different cultures, or have been shaped by different stories. But we remain as Christ’s body nonetheless. We should be living like the people we have become!
Let’s lay aside the differences that we may be holding onto as the family of God and begin living with humility, gentleness, patience and forbearance to maintain unity. What an opportunity to show the world what it’s like to be the family of God under Jesus Christ!
