Ephesians 4:7-16
Reflect
In our passage today we see that Christ has given us each a role to play in the building up of the Church and Kingdom. There are the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and the teachers, all to equip the people for service, with the purpose of building up the body of Christ. And the purpose of all of this, as stated in verse 13 is so that one day we will all reach unity in the faith and knowledge of Jesus Christ, becoming mature and attaining to the whole measure of Christ.
The goal is a maturity and unity that isn’t tossed back and forth when different challenges and difficulty comes our way, or when false teachings are tempting. It’s a unity and maturity that stands firm in the love and truth of who Jesus is. The goal is that we as individuals, and as a community become more and more like Jesus Christ. This passage ends with the words “as each part does its work”, meaning we all have a part to play in this good work.

What might your part look like? What would it look like for you to actively participate in the building up of the body of Christ towards unity and maturity, as we hope to become more and more like Jesus? We all have a part, and we need you.
