Philippians 2:10-18

Reflect

We, like Philippian Christians, need to be especially careful about what we believe, how we live, and to obey Christ.

On Wednesday morning’s we are studying the book “The Awe of God” by John Bevere. In it, he states, “The God-fearing man or woman not only obeys but greatly delights in doing so. Obedience is not a burden; it’s a joy. The person who fears God always obeys from the foundational truths:

1. God is the One who knows what’s right for me.
2. God is pure love, and I am the focus of His love.
3. God will never tell me to do anything that is detrimental. Whatever He says will always end up best.
4. Therefore, no matter what He says, I gladly choose to obey.

The evidence of holy fear is obedience, which is both a right attitude and follow-through in action, no matter the circumstances.” Proverbs 16:6b says, “By fearing the Lord, people avoid evil.”

Phil. 2:14 says, “Do everything without grumbling or arguing.” Complaining is a sin and we dishonour God and His Word when we think or speak from the posture of discontent.

Apply

Do I only obey when the conditions are favourable? Take every thought captive and recognize if you are grumbling. How can I maintain an attitude of joy and gratitude at all times?
