Philippians 3:15-4:1
Reflect
Paul’s encouragement in this part of his letter to the Philippians is that we ought to “Join with others in following (his) example, brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do.” One of the gifts that we have are people around us who model this Jesus-following way of life. Now of course, none of us will get it perfect, but what a gift it is to have others as examples to look to. Who are some of those people for you? Maybe it’s a grandparent or parent. Or a sibling or friend. Maybe it’s someone that you’ve gotten to know through a small group or Bible study. What is it about them that draws you towards their way of living? How are they an encouragement to you as you desire to follow Jesus?
Secondly, we should be mindful that there may be others looking to us to be that example for them. How are you modelling your life after that of Christ in a way that others will see and want to imitate as well?
Paul’s encouragement is that this is one of the ways we stand firm in the Lord. There’s no need to try to do this on your own!
