Devotional Guide for Tuesday, December 5

Hebrews 10:19-25

Reflect

A Christmas song says that because of Christ’s coming we have hope. It declares: “A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices, For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.”

Our passage says to “hold unswervingly to the hope we profess”. We often get discouraged and our hope begins to dwindle. As we look to this world with all the turmoil and secularization, we need people around us who will encourage us in our hope, and will remind us that “He who promised is faithful”. This is one of the reasons we should not give up meeting together, for it is when we are together that we can encourage and strengthen each other.

I witnessed the pledge of three ladies that fasted and prayed every Friday until each one of their husbands came into relationship with Christ. They encouraged each other to hope and to trust in the faithfulness of God. This process took many years, but “He who promised is faithful”.

I’m so grateful to my brothers and sisters who have strengthened my hope and reminded me over and over of God’s faithfulness. We need each other to keep our hope vibrant! I have the word HOPE in lights that I place in my window at Christmas time. May Christ's hope shine through us to others who need it so desperately!
