Matthew 3:13-17
Reflect
One of the things that I love about this story is how this voice of affirmation from God comes right at the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry. He hadn’t healed anyone yet, hadn’t preached any sermons, hadn’t fed any crowds, or told any parables. Before He did any of that, there was this voice from heaven that said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”
It can be so easy for us to think that we have to work to earn our worth, and do something special or profound to be able to hear those kinds of words from God. But the truth is, you are a son or daughter of His, He loves you, and He is pleased with you. God’s love isn’t dependent on the amount of good we do. We are loved simply because we are His.
My hope for all of us today is that we can walk in the confidence of knowing we are loved by God, because we are His children. And from that place of being loved, we can love the world around us.
