Devotional Guide for Saturday, April 13

1 Thessalonians 5:12-18

Reflect

We come today to Paul’s final instructions in this letter to the Thessalonians and he comes out flying with so many good things for how we are to live our lives in community with one another. He says that we’re to love those who work hard among us, to warn those who are idle, encourage the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone, treat each other with kindness, be joyful always, pray continually and give thanks in everything, among others. Most of these instructions have everything to do with how we live out our faith in community with each other, not so much about our individual lives. We see that we were made to be in community together and made to function with each other.

Community can be messy sometimes, but it can also be so beautiful. Together in community we have an opportunity to become more who we were created to be, and we get to graciously be a part of that work in each other’s lives as well. What a privilege!

As you read through this list of instructions, is there a specific area that God is inviting you to put some energy towards? What might it look like for us to live more deeply in community with each other?
