2 Timothy 2:20-26
Reflect
“Timothy, stay the course!” If there is one thing that Paul has been doing well in this letter to Timothy, it is encouraging him to keep going in his walk of faith and not be distracted by the Ephesian heresies (v23).
Timothy must stay the course and become a useful vessel for God. Some vessels made from gold and silver would have been used for public meals; on the other hand, wood and clay were used for less honourable purposes like garbage. It’s not that wood and clay are less honourable, but they are used for dishonourable purposes.
Without delving too far into what these vessels could potentially be, I think Paul’s main point is telling Timothy to let go of anything that might hinder his holiness (v22). In order for us to live for God, we must deal with our sinful heart issues that may be hindering us from walking faithfully with the Lord and following His purposes.

If you were Timothy, what do you think would be the biggest temptation for you? How would Paul’s words encourage you to continue walking in holiness?
As you reflect on what could be hindering your walk, how is the Spirit encouraging and challenging you to holiness?
