James 4:11-17
Reflect
“Don’t speak evil against each other, dear brothers and sisters. If you criticize and judge each other, then you are criticizing and judging God’s law. But your job is to obey the law, not to judge whether it applies to you.” (v11 NLT)
As I read this I swallow hard, because it hits home. While I think about it, I realize how often I am negative about those around me. I realize how quickly I form an opinion in my mind about others or come to conclusions (definition of judging according to Google), how they could live their lives better, etc.
James makes it clear: God is Judge! We don't have the right to do that!
In the second half of today's Scripture, we are put in our place. Our life is just like morning fog: it’s here a little while, then it’s gone.
Apply
As Jesus’ followers, tap into His power! Make the most of the time He gives you! Don’t spend time comparing and tearing others down. Let God's spirit change you to be an encourager in your attitudes and actions towards others. Saying something beneficial cures finding fault. Speak difficult truth in a constructive, respectful manner.
Join David in his prayer:
Psalm19:14: “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.”
