Reflect
We read in today’s passage a fascinating list that outlines a progression of faith in our lives. It goes from faith to goodness to knowledge to self-control to perseverance to godliness to mutual affection to love. When I read that list, it’s easy to see that there are some places in there where we can often get stuck. I think some of us go from faith to goodness to knowledge and it stops there. The more we can learn, the better, and accumulating more knowledge is the goal. But we see that there is still so much more to faith than just accumulating knowledge. Others make it all the way to self-control and it stops there, as if the goal of faith is to accumulate knowledge that leads to me being able to avoid the things that I need to avoid and live a life of self-control.
But Peter takes the list further, with its culmination being “love”. The furthest, most mature expression of our faith is love. If we stop the process anywhere short of love, we are cutting short the process of faith.

When you take a look at the list, where do you find yourself tempted to get stuck, and how might God be inviting you to continue the process towards love?
