2 Peter 1:12-21

Reflect

Beginning in verse 12, Peter seems to be concluding the final section of teaching that he will be giving. As he explains in verses 14-15, he believes that his time on earth is coming to an end, and as such, he must conclude with some final teaching.

What Peter then writes in the next verses is extremely interesting. First being, there is already a certain amount of disbelief about what the followers of Jesus are preaching about (v16). But this is no issue to Peter, as he reminds all that he was there on the mountain with Jesus at the transfiguration (v17-18). This makes the second part of what Peter writes even more impactful. As it is not the disciples’ creating myths, and there is eyewitness proof of the authority of Jesus who is giving them the commands, the reaction of the followers of Jesus must be to go out and be attentive to the call that we are receiving from the Holy Spirit (v19-21).

Apply

The message that Peter writes here is completely applicable to our own lives now as well. Even with the different voices that are trying to create doubt about the authority of Jesus and His life and death, how are we responding to the call of the Holy Spirit, and continuing to be a lamp shining in a dark place (v19?
