Philippians 2:1-11

Today’s passage is not only the key passage in the letter to the Philippians, but also one of a short list of major passages found in all of Scripture.

Paul manages to pack into these eleven verses truth statements that certainly force us to deal with what we believe is the ultimate reality. He throws us into the deep end of the pool as he pushes our faith to become what it has been meant to be.

Paul doesn’t allow for the option of minimizing Jesus to be a mere mortal with amazing character, teaching and influence; rather, Paul identifies Jesus as God. Not settling there, Paul then pushes the limits and proclaims Jesus as the God-man.

Refusing to settle for a cognitive exercise, Paul then leads us to either embrace or reject the Jesus Way of Life as lived experience. No wonder the powerful religious elite wanted him killed.
