Philippians 2:19-30

This morning, we’ll be continuing our series in Philippians as we explore what it looks like to find a deeper joy. We’re diving into Philippians 2:19-30 and how Timothy and Epaphroditus are selfless examples of what it means to find “Joy in Living for Others.”

Throughout centuries, our humanity has been marked by pursuing our own self-interest.Without question, there are countless examples of selfless servitude throughout our history, but we are becoming increasingly prone to stress, distrust, and agreeableness within our relationships that have ultimately influenced or revealed our pre-existing nature to look inward than outward.

Paul has called the Philippian church to unity, selflessness, servanthood, sacrifice, and a working out of their salvation in fear and trembling throughout the first and second chapter, so far. When Paul brings up two of his model disciples, they are the basic ideals that he’s been encouraging them since the start of the letter.Timothy has a genuine concern for the Philippians while Epaphroditus embodies sacrificial service. With Timothy’s heart that mirrors the heart of Jesus Christ, and the immense value found in Epaphroditus’ dedication and sacrifice, we see a deeper joy found in living for others.
In order to combat our heightened individualism, we must find a deeper joy.
