Philippians 3:1-14
Today’s passage contains some of the most well-known words of the apostle Paul. Can you hear the enthusiasm and encouragement in Paul’s tone? He has gone before the Philippians in walking out a Christ-centred life, and now he calls out to them that they, too, can make the journey. They can follow his example and press on to win the prize.
We are in the middle of the summer Olympics and many athletes will be featured for their perseverance and tenacity. Have you ever been surprised in a situation where you didn’t think you could make it, you couldn’t finish the task, or reach a goal, and yet somehow you pulled through? What did you learn about yourself and about God in those circumstances?
Friends, our ordinary daily decisions put us on a trajectory towards a goal. We may not be athletes training and competing, but we are nonetheless in a lifelong match towards eternity. Are you aiming to share in the sufferings and resurrection power of Christ? Are you pressing on towards the greatest goal of knowing Christ? We look forward to unpacking this further in our message today.
