Ephesians 1:18: “I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people.”
“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you…”
In Ephesians 1, Paul’s prayer is more than just knowledge; he longs for the believers to perceive with their hearts. It is not only intellect that brings about spiritual clarity, but rather, it is God’s gracious illumination.
In verse 18, Paul expresses a wish that we would comprehend the hope of God’s calling. This is not merely a vague optimism but rather a confident, anchored assurance based on Christ’s resurrection and His future together with us. It is a hope that carries us through life’s uncertainties and in the process, reminding us of our true identity and our purpose.
Most of the time, we live our lives without realizing what God has already granted us: our calling, our inheritance, and His power. Pray to God to enlighten the eyes of your heart so that you can see beyond your present circumstance and into His promises.
Prayer: Dear Lord, I request that You open up the eyes of my heart. Please help me to see the hope, the riches, and the power that You have given me in Christ. I want to live a life of clarity and purpose. Amen.
