Preparation for Sunday, September 11

Revelation 1:9-20

While on Sabbatical, I had the opportunity to go to Turkey and tour the sites of the seven churches referenced in Rev. 1:11. On this Homecoming Sunday, I will be launching a series of sermons on the letters written from Jesus to these churches. These letters are found in Rev. 2 and 3 and are preceded by a powerful vision of Jesus that we read of in Rev. 1:12-20.  Before giving straight content to John, Jesus assured him of His sovereign, gracious and personal presence. This would not only have provided great encouragement to John and the first readers of His vision, it can speak great hope and renewed perspective to us as we navigate times that can seem quite chaotic and uncertain.

Apply

  • John received this vision of Jesus while exiled on the island of Patmos because of his faith in Jesus. Try to place yourself in John’s place, with all its uncertainty and difficulty. How would this vision speak to you?
