Devotional Guide for Monday, September 12

Acts 3:11-26

Reflect

During each day, following is something we all do to a greater or lesser degree. We can follow someone‘s directions when we don’t know how to get to a particular spot. We can follow a person’s ideas by reading their books and articles. We can follow a team and cheer for them because they represent our hometown. We can follow a story because we want to see how things play out, not to mention all the following we can do on social media. Who do you follow? At what distance do you follow? Why do you follow?

Here in Acts, I believe Peter and John followed the leading of the Holy Spirit (whom they had just encountered) to speak boldly. The audience of Peter and John followed the crowd because something exciting was happening at the temple. The lame man was closely following Peter and John because of the miracle of healing he had just received.

There is a lot of following going on here. When it comes to following, are you following Jesus? If you are, why are you following Him? And at what distance are you following Him?  Jesus calls us to follow Him closely and daily, even minute by minute. He makes Himself available to each one of us. Let’s follow Jesus together today.
