As a follower of Jesus what does it mean to be a servant? Can you think of someone in your life that seems to embody this? Someone who you observe to be very good at serving. Someone who always seems willing to jump in and do whatever needs to be done. A few people come to mind for me.
Jesus paved the way for us in this. Mark 10:45 tells us that Jesus did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many. At the last supper we see Jesus washing His disciples’ feet. We see Him take up a task that was so far beneath Him to serve His disciples. The call to be a servant isn’t just for those that previously came to mind. It is for all followers of Jesus. As we follow Christ, we put aside ourselves and surrender our lives to God. Jesus says in John 12:26 that “whoever serves me must follow me.”
