Hebrews 7:11-28
Reflect
As little girl, I slept on my grandfather's side of my grandma's bed for a winter. She had been a widow for many years and lived in our house. I would always ask her to come to bed soon and the next wish was, “Grandma, pray out loud.” Under that big, warm duck down blanket, with my Grandma praying for the whole family, I developed a trust in Jesus that eventually turned into me having a personal relationship with Jesus.
I remember her often praying a verse from a song written by Nikolaus von Zinzendorf. "Christi Blut und Gerechtigkeit, das ist mein Schmuck und Ehrenkleid. Damit will ich vor Gott bestehen, wenn ich zum Himmel werd eingehen." Translation: Christ's blood and righteousness will be my jewels and dress of honour, and with it I am able to stand before God when I enter heaven.
The writer of Hebrews has the same emphasis in today's portion. No one and nothing else can give us salvation. Read once again verse 24 and 25.
Apply
Confess your sin to Jesus. You are cleansed by His sacrifice (v27). Not only do you get His Spirit to lead and guide you, He intercedes for you. He is the translator before the Father. Wow! Do you want to be closer to Him? Be deeply rooted in His Word, with prayer, fellowship, and worship.
