Hebrews 11:23-31
Reflect
Many of us have taken steps of faith in one way or another: moving to a different city, going into a specific school program, applying for a job, stepping into a friendship or relationship, joining a ministry at McKernan, allowing God to grow our family, and more.
As we continue with the author’s “hall of fame”, we’ll notice that Moses is also commended for his faith. He chose to be mistreated and identified with God’s people, he left home knowing the potential consequences of leading a bunch of Israelites away from an angry king, and kept the Passover in faith that the Destroyer would not harm him.
I think many of us would agree that some of our circumstances are incomparable to Moses’, but our thought for today is, “How can we live with greater faith?”
Thomas Chalmers has a compelling truth in his sermon, “The Expulsive Power of a New Affection.” In order for us to live with greater faith and freedom, and not be bound to our love of the world, we must have a more superior pleasure – like Moses in verse 26. Only until we have a greater affection are we able to expel our comforts, doubts, sins, and whatever else might be holding us back from living an authentic life of faith.
