John 18:1-14
Reflect
Did you know that if you happen to sit to the left side of King Charles during a meal, he will not address you (nor are you to address him) until the serving of the second course? This is done out of respect for the King and follows protocol.
Throughout Scripture there are references to those who encounter God and assume a position of reverence and respect. Here in the garden, Judas and his detachment of soldiers and officials come to arrest Jesus. When they say they are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, Jesus replies with the phrase in Greek, “Egō eimi” which is “I Am”. Our English translations have added “he”. Jesus, here in the garden doesn’t merely say, “I am the one you are looking for”. Jesus declares that He IS the I AM. With that declaration, the detachment is brought into submission by falling to the ground before the Creator of the universe. Jesus is the most Holy God, who is worthy of all honour and respect. He surrendered Himself to the will of God for you and me. Thank You Jesus for what You have done for us. We worship You today.
