Devotional Guide for Monday, May 1

Genesis 9:18-29

Reflect

A friend was mentioning how a certain person we both know is downright nasty to everyone. He must have been quite hurt in his life to be this way. Instead of agreeing with what seems to be true, we stopped and prayed a blessing over him.

In these passages, Noah curses Ham’s generational line of Canaan because Ham showed disrespect for his father. Noah then blesses both Shem and Japheth for covering his shame.

Our words have the power to curse and bless. The Message translates Prov 18:21 as, “Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.”

When we curse, demean, diminish, or belittle with our words, we speak lies—Satan's language. When we speak the truth of God's Word into people's lives, we bless them. Let’s become aware of what we say and take our thoughts captive, being quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to anger. Make a choice to reject words that do not line up with God's Word or promises.

Speak blessings to others and about others. Be proactive. Look for opportunities to bless, validate, and encourage. Words of blessing cause growth, give hope, bring healing and turn hearts toward the “Blesser”—our loving, just, and faithful God.

I bless you with knowing how much Father God loves you!
