Genesis 10:1-32
Reflect
This chapter is often referred to as a Map (or) Table of Nations. Geographically, the list of nations extends as far east as Persia, as south as Ethiopia, as west as Crete and Libya, and as north as Turkey. Although these nations were diverse in culture and politics, they shared the same origins, from the sons of Noah. It was the life-saving power of God that enabled one family to flourish and become many nations. These 70 nations owe their very existence to their Sovereign Creator.
In Acts 17:26-28, Paul applies this truth in his preaching in Athens:
“From one man He made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and He marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands. God did this so that they would seek Him and perhaps reach out for Him and find Him, though He is not far from any one of us. ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’”
Today, ask the Holy Spirit to shape your prayers for your family, your community, and for the nations around the truth that we share the same origins despite our diversity, and that in our appointed time and place, He would create opportunity for us to seek Him and to find Him.
