Preparation for Sunday, June 11

1 Samuel 16:1-13

In our services this morning, Pastor Lyle will introduce a new summer sermon series entitled “David, An Authentic Walk with God.” Today, we’ll look at the story in 1 Samuel 16 that describes God’s choosing and anointing of David as Israel’s next king. If we’re honest, we likely would have sided with Samuel in assuming God would choose the candidate that checked the right boxes of appearance and charisma. In a world that is often focused on image and external accomplishments, this passage gives us a challenging description of God’s value system and its focus on heart issues like character and priorities.

Apply

  • In what ways are you challenged to prioritize image over character?
  • How might God be inviting you to a deeper and more authentic walk with Him and with His people?
  • Ask God to work in your heart and in the hearts of all who will be attending our services on-line or in person today.

Pray

  • Pray that those who are new to the church will be welcomed and find meaningful relationships.
  • Pray for our Children’s Ministry Pastor, Jerilyn Bayer
  • Pray for the Children’s Ministry Associate, Annette Faszer, and for the Children’s Ministry Assistants: Abigail, Blythe, Clarissa, Domina, Sarah, Sunita, and Sylvie.
