Devotional Guide for Saturday, November 18

Colossians 1:15-20

Reflect

The Bible teaches that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). There is no one righteous, not even one (Romans 3:10), and our sin separates us from a holy God. In our passage today we see that in Christ was the fullness of God. And the purpose of Christ being sent to earth in human form was so that we could be reconciled to God.

Our relationship with God was broken and in need of reconciliation. A definition of reconciliation is the restoration of a relationship to a harmonious state after a dispute. Jesus died for us, paid the penalty for our sin, and restored us into a relationship with God. We don’t make our own peace with God. This isn’t something we do for ourselves by being good people. Jesus made peace for us through His finished work on the cross as it says in verse 20: “and through him (Jesus) to reconcile to himself all things, whether thing on earth or things in heaven, making peace through His blood, shed on the cross. “

What does it look like to be reconciled to God and then join Him in His ministry of reconciling others to Himself?
