Devotional Guide for Monday, December 11

Isaiah 9:6-7, John 14:23-27

Reflect

Journeying with my husband through his 3 years of cancer until he went to be with Jesus was an emotional rollercoaster. Afterwards, I was concerned for my teenagers grieving for their father. And then I fell apart. God came rushing in through the people He brought into my life. Through it all, I felt God beside me, at times carrying me. In and through it all, I felt God’s peace knowing He was in control and often wondered what people who don’t know Jesus do in difficult times.

“The end result of the Holy Spirit’s work in our lives is deep and lasting peace. Unlike worldly peace, which is usually defined as the absence of conflict, this peace is confident assurance in any circumstance: with Christ’s peace, we have no need to fear the present or the future.” NIV commentary

James 4:8 says, “Come near to God and He will come near to you”. It’s inviting God in to get His peace when you read His Word, worship, spend time in His creation or however that looks for you.

Lighting the peace candle is a reminder that the Christ-child will bring peace to a trouble world.

Prince of Peace, may your peace fill our hearts and our world. Help us to be peacemakers in our relationships and communities.
