2 Timothy 3:10-17
Reflect
Following chapter 2 in 2 Timothy, Paul continues to talk about a worker of Christ. In this section, however, it is preceded by instruction on godlessness in the last days. Interpreting this in light of the previous section, Paul’s instructions on how to be “equipped for every good work” (v17) should be understood that this will have to happen in the face of hardship. That is exactly what Paul warns of--all who strive to live a godly life will be persecuted (v12). It is not only the persecution that is warned of, but also the wicked people who are attempting to deceive others. Because of these two things, Paul gives a charge to Timothy to remain steadfast in what he has learned from Scripture (v14-16). In doing so, Timothy will be proficient in every good work as a person of God (v17).
Apply
Looking at how we all face challenges in different circumstances throughout our life, how can we adopt this same idea that Paul writes about here, so that we might be a person of God, proficient, and equipped for every good work?
