Preparation for Sunday, May 19

Luke 9:23-27
This morning, Pastor Nathanael will be continuing our series on “Dwelling in Christ” by looking at the question found in Luke 9:23-27, “For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself?”

The call to follow Jesus has little to do with comfort and convenience; it is a radical and costly commitment that leads to an extraordinary reward. This commitment demands our lives, through denying our daily self-centredness, in order that we may find true freedom in the life that God offers.
This is exactly the life that Jesus exemplified for His disciples and us, as we see the overall theme in Luke of the impending shadow of the cross. He exemplified the call and cost of discipleship.

Reflect

How does my life reflect the call to deny myself, take up my cross daily, and follow Jesus? In what areas am I struggling to surrender my desires to His will?

Apply

What is one distraction in your life that is deterring you from following Jesus more closely? Consider some tangible steps to distance yourself from distractions and instead, begin following the teachings of Jesus.
