Devotional Guide for Thursday, June 6

James 5:7-12

Reflect

How many times as a child were you told to be patient? As an adult, have you told someone to be patient recently? What is the usual response to being told to be patient?

In our passage today, James tells us we are to be patient, and not just for a moment, but until the Lord’s coming. This being patient is not a one-time event, but rather a way of living each moment of every day.

If only our days would be absent of things that would test our patience. But we live in a world that offers us many opportunities to be patient. To choose to wait on the Lord. To be kind toward others. To not grumble or complain. To follow the example of Job and the prophets to persevere through difficult and challenging times.

As you walk through this day, pay attention to how you are responding to your circumstances and notice if you are demonstrating what it looks like to live a life of patience.

Pray for Jim Hall – House of Prayer Edmonton
House of Prayer Edmonton (HoPE) works to facilitate prayer for Christians from different churches and denominations to pray together for our city, province and nation. We host daily and monthly prayer gatherings. We believe that prayer is an essential part for the work of missions. We also work with local churches and ministries to help equip, call and connect Christians on the subject and practice of prayer. I am the Executive Director of HoPE and a typical week for me focuses around organizing, leading and participating in our daily prayer gatherings and working to engage others in the ministry of prayer and intercession.
