1 Peter 2:4-12

Reflect

I occasionally become perplexed when, in reference to both the increase of secularism and massive immigration in Canada, I hear someone bemoan that “Canada is no longer a Christian nation!”. It is a massively false assumption that Christian parents produce Christian children.

Closer to reality is that churches that are willing to reject becoming comfortable and are asking the right questions of which only Jesus is the courageous answer, are making a godly impact upon the next generation. Verse 10 emphasizes this bold reality that we are not born as a Christian. God’s mercy allows us to become His people. If you’re thinking of a tattoo, verse 10 would look good on you!

Verse 11 reveals how that affects our practices in life. In the power of the Resurrected Jesus, we humbly and passionately walk to the beat of a different drummer than the rest of society, while fully immersing ourselves in the culture of the world.

Peter is writing this to the persecuted church that fully understands that growth does not come without struggle. To avoid the hardships would result in a church that is sheltered, delicate, naïve and immature.

How will you put yourself out there into the prevailing winds of a shifting culture?
Who is God calling you to come alongside with the message of His glorious mercy?
